Roberto Rodriquez, M.A., is a Licensed Associate Marriage, a Family Therapist and a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor and has over ten years of experience in the treatment of substance use disorder.

He has worked in intensive outpatient settings and residential settings, providing transformative experiences for adolescents, men, couples, and families. Rob is highly experienced in facilitating Helping Men Recover groups (providing co-occurring disorder, gender-responsive, trauma-informed services for men).

Rob currently works with the Marc Hertz Consulting firm in Saint Paul, MN.  He is the co-author of Exploring Trauma: A Brief Intervention for Men with Dr. Stephanie Covington.

This is the only research-based, brief intervention program related to trauma for men published by Hazelden. Rob is currently engaged as a consultant with the Connecticut Women’s Consortium, and a staunch supporter of the curriculum, Exploring Trauma: A Brief Intervention for Men.

Jean-Paul Bédard is an author, advocate, elite endurance athlete, and  was named one of the "50 Most Influential Canadians" by Huffington Post.

In 2013, Jean-Paul disclosed to family and friends that he is a survivor of childhood sexual abuse and rape. As a result, he turned to long-distance running to help him battle his addiction and mental health issues. Since that time, he has become an international advocate for other survivors of sexual violence.  In 2014, Jean-Paul ran the iconic Boston Marathon twice in the same day in a highly publicized campaign. In 2015 he was awarded the "Golden Shoe Award" for being named "Canadian Runner of the Year". 

As a Brooks sponsored athlete and veteran of over 130 marathons and ultra marathons, Jean-Paul represented Canada in the prestigious Comrades Marathon in South Africa, a grueling 90km race through mountainous terrain. In the fall of 2015, Jean-Paul ran the Toronto Waterfront Marathon three times in the same day to demonstrate the resiliency of survivors of trauma.

Paul Riedner is the Executive Director of the startup non-profit called the Veteran Resilience Project which uses EMDR to address a number of after-effects of military service and war.

Paul has an Economics degree and an MBA focused on business anthropology and consumer behavior. From 2006 - 2010 he was a Deep Sea Diver in the US Army. Since returning from war and the military, Paul began exploring how to use art to express his changing perspectives and to connect the public with the experiences and struggles of returning veterans.

Jan Winhall M.S.W. R.S.W. F.O.T. is a Registered Clinical Social Worker and Coordinator with the Focusing Institute in New York City. She is a member of the International Focusing Oriented Psychotherapy Association and Director of Focusing On Borden, a training centre where she teaches Focusing and supervises therapists. She is also an Adjunct Lecturer with the University of Toronto Master of Social Work program.

Jan has worked in the area of trauma and addiction for over 30 years. Early on she was drawn to Gene Gendlin’s work called Focusing, a contemplative practice that facilitates a state of integration between mind, emotion and body awareness. This embodied state gives fresh direction in dealing with life problems and wounded places. It can be taught in 6 steps and is practiced in partnerships. Focusing Oriented Therapy provides a profound relational context offering healing experiences.

Jan has written a chapter, ‘Understanding and Treating Addiction with the Felt Sense Experience Model’ (Greg Madison Editor, Emerging Practice in Focusing Oriented Psychotherapy, Innovative Theory and Applications (178-193). London: Jessica Kingsley Publishers. Her Felt Sense Experience Model offers a departure from the traditional pathologizing framework in treating trauma and addiction, emphasizing the power of Focusing as a tool for attaining emotional regulation.

Ayelet Amittay is a poet and a psychiatric nurse practitioner.

Her private practice, Wild Geese Mental Health, focuses on providing integrated medication management for clients who have experienced trauma or loss.

Ayelet holds an MFA in poetry from the University of Michigan and an MSN from the Yale School of Nursing. She is interested in the ways that trauma and creative writing dovetail with one another.

Ayelet has worked in settings that include integrated primary care, community mental health, and in-home intensive child and adolescent services. She is currently training to become a Parenting by Connection instructor.

Dr. Glenn Schiraldi is a graduate of West Point, a Vietnam Vet, and served at the Pentagon where he developed a prototype courses in Stress Management for The Department of The Army.

Glenn has served on the stress management faculties at The Pentagon, The International Critical Incident Stress Foundation, and The University of Maryland, where he received the Outstanding Teacher Award.

Glenn is also author of the new book, The Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Sourcebook, Revised and Expanded Second Edition: A Guide to Healing, Recovery, and Growth

Linnea Butler is founder and Clinical Director of Bay Area Mental Health in Los Gatos, CA. She specializes in treating trauma and mood disorders as well as running a DBT program.

Linnea has trained in trauma treatment with Janina Fisher, Manuela Mische-Reeds, Bessel van der Kolk and Ame Cutler. Before founding Bay Area Mental Health, Linnea worked at various agencies, including Momentum for Mental Health where she ran an outpatient clinic that served over 400 clients. Linnea has degrees from Occidental College, The University of Utah and the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology.

Ron Gellis, Ph.D is back.

This time, without a doubt, it’s personal.

If you’ll recall, Ron joined me previously on episode 86 of the podcast. Today, I’m proud and excited to speak with him.

In this episode, Ron shares with us a part of his life that is quite intimate and personal. As a result, this interview becomes an amazing opportunity for learning for each of us.

Ron has been a Clinical and Forensic Sports Psychologist in California for over 30 years and specializes in PTS, TBI, addictive and/or co-occurring disorders. Ron was a Navy Psychologist during the post-Vietnam era during which time he treated and worked with the first wave of Vietnam veterans with PTSD. Ron has established The Integrated Recovery Foundation, a program designed to assist Veterans and First Responders who have issues with PTS, TBI, addictive and/or co-occurring disorders.

As an athlete, I have played soccer in high school and college. I have run 20 marathons with times ranging from 2:58-4:02 with most times between 3:05-3:20, during my 20’s to 50’s. In that time I ran countless 1/2 marathons, 10 & 5k’s. I have also completed a variety of Olympic and Sprint Triathlons. I have been a scuba instructor for over 20 years with personal passion for underwater photography. At the age of 60, I started CrossFit. I have been CrossFitting for almost 7 years and have qualified for the World CrossFit Games as a Masters athlete 3 times. I am also a level 2 CrossFit Coach.

Richard Strozzi-Heckler has a PhD. in Psychology and a sixth-degree black belt in Aikido.  He is the founder of the Strozzi Institute, The Center for Leadership and Mastery, and the developer of Strozzi Somatic Work.

Richard is the author of eight books including The Anatomy of Change, The Leadership Dojo, and The Art of Somatic Coaching.  He is the co-founder of the Middle East Aikido Project-a peace building effort- which brings Palestinians and Israelis together through the martial art of Aikido.

Rochelle holds a PhD in Child and Youth Care (UVIC). Beginning with a career in forensic psychiatric nursing, she has 30 years of clinical experience in the areas of post-traumatic stress, attachment trauma and developmental wounding.

In her private clinical practice, Rochelle sees both children and adults who have experienced abuse, neglect and other traumatic experiences such as vehicle accidents, natural disasters, bullying, chronic degradation and so forth.

Rochelle is an EMDRIA-approved consultant in EMDR, facilitates for the DNMS Institute, and recently joined the faculty of the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute. She has presented at EMDR and Trauma and Dissociation conferences in Canada and abroad.
